| Vesper Bluet, Enallagma vesperum 1.1 - 1.5 inches in length. This species is found on lakes, ponds and slow rivers with floating vegetation. Because they do not usually venture out onto lilypads until late in the afternoon to feed and mate, this species can be easily missed unless you make a point to look for them. They are fairly common throughout the Northeast. Field identifiable in the Northeast. | |||||||

| Description: Mature male has yellow eyes, face, eyespots, thorax, and legs. The abdomen is mostly black with segment 9 completely blue and segment 10 with blue on its sides. However the Golden Bluet of the Southeast is similar in pattern and should be separated by its terminal appendages. | |||||||

| The dark shoulder stripes of Vesper Bluet are usually narrow and sometimes nearly absent. The edges of the stripe are usually indistinct and not cleanly defined. The series above show differences of the shoulder stripe, note the varying amounts of black and brown. These are female Vesper Bluets but males show similar variability. | |||||||
